What is a teacher tour?
The Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom Program (MAITC) is excited to offer a unique summer professional development opportunity for K-12 educators. Our Summer Teacher Tours allow educators to observe and experience current agricultural production, processing and distribution techniques, as well as exposure to a wealth of standards-based, agriculture themed lesson plans and resources. Participants will network and share how they intend to use these experiences and resources to integrate agriculture into their curricula to improve student achievement by applying authentic agricultural examples to teach core curriculum concepts in science, social studies, language arts, math and nutrition.

The Hands that Feed Us
Discover the journey your food takes from farm to plate by learning directly from the hands that feed us: Farmers. On this teacher tour you will have the opportunity to tour and connect directly with farmers who are growing and raising food for not only their local communities, but the world. You will walk away from this experience with a deeper personal understanding of where food comes from. In addition to a deeper appreciation of Minnesota agriculture, you will be equipped with resources and knowledge to bring back to your students in the fall. Best of all, the connections and collaboration you will forge with other area educators will expand your insights about how others are bringing agriculture learning into their classroom experiences.

We will step behind-the-scenes at Bix Produce Co. to learn about produce processing and distribution from one of the area’s leading produce distributors. Bailey Nurseries is excited to share how their locations are involved with fruit and landscape plant production locally, as well as across the country.
