Taking action to preserve something, especially a natural resource
- What Happens During Spring Planting?Did you know spring planting starts long before spring? That’s right. Farmers need to spend a lot of time planning and preparing for the spring planting season. Much of the planning is done the previous fall and throughout the winter. Farmers make plans on what crop to plant, what type of seed to plant and where to plant it.
- Soil Fuels SuccessWhen discovering and investigating what agriculture is, many people disregard the resource that is at the heart of almost all agricultural production, soil! During this virtual tour, participants focused on how soil fuels success on a Minnesota Crop Farm.
- Agriculture: Local to GlobalAre agricultural products grown in Minnesota exported all over the world? Do Minnesota farmers provide food for our state’s citizens? The answer to both these questions is yes! This three-day tour investigated both local and global agriculture and food systems. This tour was offered in partnership with the Minnesota Alliance for Geographic Education (MAGE) and was funded through a grant from the National Geographic Society.
- Honey and CropsBees have always fascinated me. And because I love to learn more about the world around me, I wanted to learn more about the business of making honey. Hence, “making honey” is part of our current virtual ag tour. Along with honey, I also am intrigued by the ingenuity used by farmers on their crop farms.
