Minnesota Agriculture Products

What is Agriculture?

Maybe you said agriculture is farming.

You thought of planting and harvesting crops or raising livestock and poultry. Maybe you said it was milking cows or selling fruits and vegetables. It's all this and more! Agriculture is the industry that grows, harvests, and brings us food, fuel, fiber/fabric, forestry and flowers.

Let’s learn about two groups of Minnesota Agriculture Products

Commodities

A commodity is a raw agricultural product that is often processed to be used as food for people, feed for animals, fuel, and fiber.  Corn, soybeans, grain, cattle, pigs, chickens, and turkeys are all examples of commodities.

Specialty Crops

Specialty crops are crops grown and used by people for food, medicine, or decoration. Fruits, vegetables, tree nuts, herbs, and flowers are all examples.
